What metaphors for life are you using?
Are they serving you to appreciate MORE or LESS your time on this planet?
Let’s find out!!
And of course, let’s see how this will help you build your confidence!
What metaphors of life are you using?
I read about this already a few years ago in one of Tony Robbins’ books.
So, it’s not really MY theory 😉
You might have said/heard the following metaphors about life.
“Life is a battlefield.”
“It’s you and me against the world.”
“Life is like a roller coaster.”
Etc.
Ask yourself: What are the metaphors you’re using to describe life?
The words you’re using are going to make you feel a certain way.
For example, thinking that:
“Life is a battlefield” makes you feel maybe anxious, tensed, and helpless.
Or
“Life is like a roller coaster” makes you feel maybe terrified but also excited at the same time.
How do you want to feel?
Take the time to really think of the metaphors you’re using to describe life.
Are they empowering you? What emotions are they creating? How do they make you feel?
I used to think: “Life is a gift.”
Then, after a few bad experiences, I realized that it changed to “Life is hard” which was making me feel so bad…
Just by paying attention to it set me free 🙂
Now, I’m thinking that “Life is a buffet”!
And that’s the reason why I love to eat maybe… See! It’s not serving me better!!
How it’s related to building your self-confidence…
Pay attention to what metaphors you’re using to describe your life will make you feel more in control of your life.
You won’t feel like you are the victim of what is happening to you (and then, the way you’re describing it!) but that you CHOOSE your words to describe how life looks like for you!
Get creative! You can choose to describe your life exactly the way you want it to!
Is it maybe like a box of chocolate? 😉
I heard also about these 2 ideas from a great post called 40+ Best Metaphors About Life, Meaning & Change:
Puzzle:
Putting together a puzzle is like life. Sometimes you don’t always have all the pieces. In the end, everything fits together.
Elevator:
Sometimes life feels like being trapped in an elevator. You’re always going up or down, and sometimes you’re not even the one pushing the buttons.
To sum up!
Do that for you and let me know what kind of metaphors you’re having.
Often, we are not even aware of what we are thinking.
It actually has A HUGE effect on how we are feeling and then, what actions we are taking and the results that we’re getting.
