Wondering “how can I feel more confident in my body?”
In fact, this is what I’ve discovered from my own experiences and my work with my fabulous life coaching clients.
Let me show you how you too, can feel confident in your body starting right now.
What does it look like to be confident in your body?
Ask yourself: How does it look like to be confident in your body? How would you describe it?
How would that make you feel, to be confident in your body?
What would you be able to do?
Maybe, you would say:
- I would finally get ride of the diets-weightloss struggles! No need to think of everything that I’m eating, how much I’m eating…
- People may look at me saying that I’m pretty/beautiful/handsome! I would feel loved!
- I would be able to focus on other things in my life: friends, hobbies, work… No need to spend so much energy focusing on my weight!
It’s really about feeling comfortable in your own skin.
Feeling at home!
Now, I want you to think of someone that is confident in their body, in your opinion.
How does that look like in your eyes? How would you describe it?
You don’t have to wait to “be” healthy to already feel like this…
The good news is that you don’t need to feel better in a few days, in a few months when you will be “skinny enough” or “muscly enough” as you imagine it.
Most of the time, we think that we need to achieve something to be able to feel a certain way.
But you absolutely do not.
We create feelings from our thoughts. So, you can feel any way you want since you can choose your thoughts carefully! 🙂
When it comes to feeling confident in your body. How will that make you feel? It’s not just about the confidence, it’s about feeling a certain way WITH THAT CONFIDENCE.
Ask yourself: How will I feel once I’ll be confident in my body?
If you take the example of feeling healthy.
Lots of people think that you need to go to the gym and to lose weight to finally be able to feel healthier.
I disagree. I think that choosing to eat a salad at night for example or just going for a 10 minutes walk can already make me feel healthy.
Because again, it’s not what you do that makes the difference but what you make it mean!
You didn’t create your body…
I like reminding myself from time to time that I did not create my body.
I would have maybe created a few things differently if I would have! 😉
So, keep in mind that you did NOT create your body which is great news because you kind of feel here that you have no choice but to accept it!
But, also, from the moment you accept that you didn’t choose it, you also need to understand that you can do whatever you want with it!
Let me tell you more about it…
You can do whatever you want with it!
I want to start by asking you: What are your current thoughts about your body?
Are you happy with the results that you currently have towards your body and your health?
What do you want to be different?
If you want different results, you need to have different thoughts.
The great news is that you can do and think whatever you want with your body!
Maybe today you weight this amount of kilos/pounds.
But it doesn’t need to always be this way if you don’t want it to.
You can do WHATEVER you want with your body! It all depends on what you decide to think of it.
So you’re not responsible for your body, but you can decide what to do about it.
Understand that it’s a choice
Did you know that we have at least 60’000 thoughts per day!
Most of the time, we are unconscious of them.
Paying attention to what’s going on inside of your head is essential.
And very important information here is to understand that no matter what thoughts you’re having, it’s a choice you’re making.
So, if you want different results with your body, you HAVE to believe different thoughts about it.
Let me show you how! 🙂
How do I stop being insecure about my body? Thought hacking 101
I like this thought hacking from Brooke Castillo.
If you want different results in your life, you need to have different thoughts!
Remember?
Thoughts -> Feelings -> Actions -> Results
Your thoughts create your feelings that drive your actions and that create the results that you have in your life.
The first thing to do is to become the observer/the watcher of the thoughts that you’re having.
First, be aware of the way you think. Do not judge what you’re going to find!
Have a look with curiosity and compassion! 🙂
Then, if you want to change a thought, this is how to proceed:
Step 1. Find the thought (the belief that isn’t serving you).
“I should be thinner.”
Step 2. Notice its impact
“I don’t know why I’m even trying, I’ve been overweight for a long time and I tried everything” (makes you feel helpless so you overeat)
Step 3. Decide what you want to believe instead
“I have a great body and I feel good in it”.
Step 4. Create a bridge thought and practice
“I have a body.”
When it comes to thoughts creating feelings, we need to believe in what we think, the thoughts we have!
This is why they have an effect because we believe in the thoughts we think.
The moment that you start paying attention to the way you think, you’re realizing how you’re talking to yourself and you can ask yourself:
- Would you tell this to someone that you love?
- What would you actually tell a friend?
Be gentle with yourself when it comes to having control over your thoughts.
It’s really a skill to develop! 🙂
Have unconditional love for yourself!
Since you can choose your thoughts, I want you to consider choosing to feel LOVE.
Love is a feeling that we feel because of certain thoughts that we have.
If you want to feel LOVE towards your body, to feel confident about it, what thoughts do you need to have?
I would say:
- “I’m tired of this constant fight and war with my body. Let’s be united, let’s be one!”
- “I have a body.”
- “I can do whatever I want with my body.”
- “The way I look today isn’t necessarily the way that I will look tomorrow.”
- “My body is my temple. I’m feeling at home inside of it”.
- “My body is helping me to do things that make me happy. Going out, meeting friends, watching TV, I need my body to exist and this is why I want to befriend it”.
Also, when it comes to love something unconditionally (think of your kid, your dog…), you ACCEPT all of what it is.
So, you need to first accept yourself.
You won’t necessarily always look like this, but you need to have a look at your body from a place of LOVE, ACCEPTANCE, and COMPASSION.
Remember to NEVER beat yourself up! 🙂
There is always a positive intention in what we do!
Control of your thoughts = control of your life!
You’re not a victim of what’s happening to you.
You take control of the way you think, so you have control of the way that you LIVE!
For example, it probably happened to most of us:
We eat a lot and we feel like “wow, who was this? It wasn’t me! I’m not overeating like this, I felt out of control!”
Instead of being the victim of what’s happening to you (I overate I don’t know how that happened!), you are actually responsible for what’s happening and it feels great!
You can choose to eat that bag of chips, it’s not really eating that bag of chips that is the problem, it’s what we make it mean!
The good thing here is that even if you eat a bit more at one meal, you feel like you have FULL CONTROL of your life! It’s an amazing feeling!
Because it’s coming from a place of love! 🙂
I like how some personal development gurus are saying that no matter what you are choosing, love your reasons for doing it.
I’m not entering too much more into details about overeating and how taking care of our emotions could help us prevent overeating, but it’s interesting to think about what you’re doing, why you’re doing and if you like your reasons or not.
Body confidence quotes
Here you’ll find a few body confidence quotes that I absolutely LOVE!
Enjoy! 🙂
You are perfect!
I found this on the great website of Livingly.
I agree 100%!
You are not defined by any of this! You’re amazing, you’re unique, be your own coach, be your own friend, and do not EVER beat yourself up! 🙂
To sum up!
As you can see, you can change the way you look at your body.
You can come from a place of LOVE and ACCEPTANCE.
And be the watcher and the observer of the thoughts that you currently have towards your body.
Then, think about what you want to think instead and what bridge thought can help you get there!
Ask yourself, always:
Would you tell that to a friend?
You want to feel confident about your body.
What do you need to think and to believe to feel this way?
Being more self-aware is already 50% of the journey! 🙂
Be your own friend, be your own coach!
