One of the aims of building confidence is to be comfortable being who you truly are.
And that goes with loving your reasons, no matter what you do.
Let me explain how this is a great way to become more confident!
Let’s dive right in!
What are your reasons for doing what you’re doing?
Have you ever wondered: What are your reasons?
For example:
- What are your reasons for waking up in the morning?
- What are your reasons for going to work?
- What are your reasons for moving your body/going to the gym/building muscle strength?
Or maybe:
- What are your reasons for saying “yes” to something you don’t really want to do?
- What are your reasons for stopping talking to your mother?
- What are your reasons for telling someone that they are annoying you?
Most of the time, we are not too aware of why we do what we do.
Let me tell you why it actually matters!
If you like your reasons, you live in integrity.
The thing is pretty easy to understand: When you like your reasons for doing what you’re doing, you then live in integrity with yourself.
What does it mean?
It means that you live true to your values and goals.
You are “aligned” with what is important to you, what truly matters.
For example, if health is essential to you, by going for walks every day, you’re living true to your value of “health”.
And if I’m asking you, what is your reason for going for a walk and you answer “to be healthy” and that you like this reason, you’re then living in integrity with yourself.
And that’s a very comfortable and secure feeling to feel!
Also, when you love your reasons for what you’re choosing to do, you live a more intentional life.
Because you feel like you’re doing FOR you, that you aren’t reacting to life but are more in control.
Another example for liking your reason would be to start saying “no” more often.
If you want to say “no” to someone because you want to have more time for yourself, for example, you then love your reason for saying “no” (to have more time for yourself) which is helping you feel good about saying “no”, because you simply love your reasons.
How to know if you love your reasons?
All of this can maybe be a bit overwhelming or unknown because we don’t talk too much about this topic!
We never learned at school how to like your reasons more, it’s a concept that it isn’t easy to get at first I totally understand that!
So, your next step is to ask yourself: No matter what you’re doing right now, do you like your reasons for doing that? Does it make sense to you? Does it serve a value?
Don’t get me wrong, if you’re reading this/listening to this while being on the toilets, I agree that this might sound a bit funny to “love your reasons” for peeing but in other situation, always ask yourself: Do I like my reasons for doing that?
Loving your reasons = easier to make decisions!
When it comes to making decisions, it can be very hard because we are hesitating between two situations.
So, if you hesitate for example between staying at your current job or changing job, ask yourself for both of the situations:
- Do I like my reasons for leaving that job?
- Do I like my reasons for staying at this job?
Considering the answer to these questions, you will be more comfortable knowing that what you are choosing is aligned with your values and your goals in life which again, will make you feel more in integrity, in control of your life!
When your guts tell you something…
Asking yourself if you like your reasons can be very helpful also when you’re in doubt.
When you’re not sure about a situation, something feels good or maybe off and you don’t really know what to do.
Ask yourself: Considering that situation, what can I do?
And do I like my reasons for doing that?
For example, I remember an amazing life coaching client telling me that they want to stop speaking to her parents because she felt that they were too different from her and that she doesn’t feel part of this family anymore.
I simply asked her if she liked her reasons for doing that.
After talking a bit about that, she shared that she wanted to punish them for not having behaved the way she wanted them to behave.
And she realized that she could still talk to them without needing to be very close to them because she realized that she did not like her reasons for stopping completely talking to them.
Loving your reason = building your self-confidence!
I share a lot that when you live close to your values, you feel more in control of your life.
You feel like you live more intentionally!
And building confidence is also about having your own back, which is what is happening when you ask yourself if you like your reasons.
You are checking with yourself if the situation seems good for you and for your integrity and then, you can make a decision considering your feeling and what will make you feel happy and comfortable with yourself.
This is an amazing boost for your confidence!
To sum up!
Ask yourself right now if you like your reasons for reading this post/listening to this podcast episode.
Do you think maybe that it can help you?
Do you like your reasons for building your confidence?
What would your life be different the moment you’ll be more confident?
Asking if you like your reasons is an amazing tool to help you build confidence.
Try it out for yourself and feel more in control of your life starting right now! 🙂
