When it comes to self-improvement, we often look at it from a place of lack.
As to the answer to the question: What could make me better?
I’m saying today, let’s look at it differently!
In a way that is probably more sustainable and… For sure more FUN!!
Let’s do this!!
Knowing what you want…
I think that it’s VERY important to know what we want and to focus on going in that direction!
But sometimes, we might use it against ourselves because the difference between who we are now and this future version of ourselves is maybe too “different” from the one we are now.
And it can be very defeating because we don’t see all the efforts that are being made but more all the failures…
Let’s get an example, it will be easier to understand!!
Someone who’s trying to stop snacking at night…
This person really wants to breathe through the urge to snack at night and not snack.
The problem is always the same: 2 nights out of 3, they are totally doing it and celebrating it!
But 1 night, they DO snack something and… Feel like a failure and think they’re never going to get there!!
But what about these 2 other nights when they did NOT snack?? Why not focus on this one?
It goes the same with:
- Feeling like a perfectionist person when sometimes you succeed in some stuff and you did NOT necessarily have done them perfectly…!
- You’re always late when you actually… Weren’t late that day!!
- You think that you don’t eat healthily and you actually ate a healthy meal last Monday!!
- You think you spend too much time scrolling when you made an effort yesterday night to read a few pages of a book instead of scrolling…!
The brain likes rewards!
Don’t ever forget: Your brain’s job isn’t to make you happy.
Your brain’s job is to keep you ALIVE!!
So, your brain LOVES to be efficient, saving you some time and energy, making sure you stay with us!!
So, it loves finding how RIGHT he is! This is why we want to be right!!
So, if you tell your brain to focus on the times you did NOT do what this future version of yourself would do (not snack at night) by believing thoughts such as “See! I cannot succeed at it! I failed again” or “I have to be consistent and I’m not!”…
Your brain will always find proof of what you are thinking.
And you DO KNOW that are never any upsides to beating yourself up to greatness!!
Some people may say “When you beat yourself up, it motivates you to take action!”, I strongly disagree and actually, I just don’t find it FUN at all!
What if we could get the same result by LOVING ourselves, having compassion, and being our own champion!
We can cheer ourselves up instead of beating ourselves up!!
So give your brain something you DO want it to focus on!!
In the snacking at night situation, it’s focusing on the nights that we DID not snack at night!!
It makes me think also of the fact that some people may weigh 100 kgs and I like to show them that there is also a reason why they don’t weigh 120 kgs?!
How could it be more useful to look at this this way?!
Your future self…
So now, I want you to start paying attention to something that is SERVING YOU.
We are not beating ourselves up anymore, it’s not happening under my watch!!
Think of something you feel like you’re not consistent at doing, think of all the times you did NOT continue acting as your future self (the one that doesn’t snack at night!).
How bad are you feeling thinking about this? 😉
Now, think of all the times that you actually aren’t snacking at night, all the times that you are losing your mind, feeling overwhelmed, blaming yourself…
Feed your brain thoughts that are SERVING you in becoming that future version of yourself!
And what does this future version of yourself look like?!
I can help you take the time to figure it out!!

It’s going to be amazing!! 🙂
But really today, make sure you are telling yourself “WOW you did amazing!!”!! For all the time you do take action from your future self! 🙂
And have compassion for present actions and inactions! 🙂
Make sure you BREAK that train of thoughts that thinks that you are ALWAYS like this!!
It’s not true :), when you find just one proof that you’re NOT always like this, you’ll less believe your brain when it’s offering you these kinds of thoughts…!
Because you are NOT always like this! 🙂 No you’re not!! 🙂
