Who Is The Author, Nadalie Bardo?
Nadalie Bardo is the founder of “It’s All You Boo”, a personal development blog committed to helping you take action and live your life with confidence so you can slay your goals.
She’s been blogging for 4 years now and the fact that she built a successful blog and business proves you that she’s the expert in overcoming procrastination! 😉
So, this new book on procrastination is called “Conquer Procrastination, Proven strategies to take control of your life“.
Nadalie, The Expert In Conquering Procrastination!
I asked Nadalie how she became the expert in the “stopping procrastination” field and she shares:
“I’m not sure if I’m the expert!
The experts are the amazing psychologists who committed their entire careers to understand procrastination.
So many of them have published amazing articles that helped me to understand the psychology and the science of procrastination because I think that a lot of think about procrastination in terms of “I don’t want to get this done”, but looking behind the curtains and figuring it out “ok, why do we put things o?” there is a reason!
Without them, I wouldn’t have written this book on procrastination.
I’m a recovering procrastinator, I think that we all are.
I share in the book 90% of us are procrastinators and I realize do think that you have to point where you see where the procrastination is not serving you and you need to make a change.
For me, that big moment was in undergrad when I was at university”.
Know Your Why…
One thing that I particularly LOVED in Nadalie’s book is that she’s sharing the strategy of knowing why you need to take that next action.
Everything that you need to do, you want to do it for a specific reason, and asking yourself “why” can really help!
You can also ask yourself: What more will you get when you’ll accomplish that next task? To what result are you getting closer?
This can really help you get going and give you the momentum you need to start that task you’ve been putting off for so long!
In What Situations Are we Procrastinating?
And why do we procrastinate actually?!
I asked Nadalie in what situations she used to procrastinate, she shares:
“If you read the book, I start with a true story that happened to me: I would procrastinate my school work.
And how would I do it? I would go partying instead of getting started and I would come home at 3 AM and then do my homework, ridiculous behavior like that!
One that is very common for people is: You’ve got to get something done.
Filing a report, filing your taxes or you have to bake cookies, cook dinner, but you’re not doing it.
Instead, you’re maybe cleaning or you’re doing something else!
There’s a lot of us that are productive procrastinators and most of the people, we’re not actually lying on the floor doing anything, scrolling on social media, we’re doing other things!
But the problem is that you’re not doing the most important thing!”
The good news is that it doesn’t have to be that way! This book is definitely one of the best procrastination books out there! 🙂
Being A Procrastinator Isn’t Part of Your Identity!
Nadalie and I talked about the fact that procrastinating is a habit and how to overcome procrastination.
You weren’t born a procrastinator and you can stop that habit right away! 🙂

How Did Nadalie Find The Solutions To Procrastination?
I like how Nadalie replies:
“I made a choice that I was going to do better, that I would be more prepared!
I remember that after the second or third year of University, I made a choice that I was going to be on top of it.
That’s when I became this planner where I knew when all my assignments were due, I kept that document with reminders, everything I needed to read and everything I needed to get done.
Everybody in my class wanted it!
So, it really started with planning and getting organized, I think that it’s something that we know how to do but whether we do it or not is a personal choice.
You start by having a plan and know what your goals are.
That’s why the book starts with figuring out what do you need to do, what are the goals, and what’s the plan.
For myself, it was learning how to do that and with my own self and my own career, balancing between being a student and working.
The book is a decade of figuring it out and trying different things that work”.
It’s full of awesome strategies, you have to check it out! 🙂
If you’re on a list of books on procrastination, this one is just very clear and straightforward! Who has time to read tons of pages? You want to get answers right away, am I right? 🙂 I don’t think that all the books about procrastination are giving you this…
Did Nadalie Procrastinate While Writing Her Book?
I was very curious to ask Nadalie this question! 😉
What is procrastination?
She started by define procrastination:
“First, let’s define what procrastination is: Procrastination is putting something off that you had the opportunity to get started earlier.
If you’ve just got into something because you’ve been genuinely busy, that’s not procrastination.
It’s only procrastination when you had the opportunity to do it, let’s say “I had the opportunity to start writing but instead I went to clean my house”. That’s procrastinating!
So, I don’t think that I procrastinated at all writing my book! And I’m not saying that to be like “See, I’m cured of procrastination!”, but I knew how much work goes into it.
I had to do my research, I would take notes, I would start writing the draft and because of how the deadlines for chapters work, there really is no time to procrastinate!”
How Conquering Procrastination Can Help One Build Their Self-Confidence?
On that topic, Nadalie says:
“I do think that it’s all related!
When you have kicked procrastination butt with one thing, for example, you’re saying to yourself “Ok, it wasn’t so bad!”
Because I think that a lot of the time as I expressed in the book, it’s an emotional issue.
Procrastination isn’t a time management issue, it’s an issue of emotional mismanagement to quote an expert.
A lot of the time in our minds, we have this conversation “Oh it’s boring, oh it’s too hard, oh I’m going to fail” and these are all the stories we tell ourselves about the task.
But once you get it done you’re like “Oh, you know what, that wasn’t so bad and I was able to do it so the next time, whether it’s exercising, something we all may find ourselves procrastinating days and years about, and you exercise for 5 minutes and you’re like “Ok, that wasn’t so bad!”
So, I definitely think that it helps you build your self-confidence to get things done but also your confidence in how much you can get done.
For example, writing the book! “It takes me this many days to write a chapter”. You get to know how much time it takes you to do something and that gives you confidence!”
What I really think also is that you’re building a new habit and it’s showing you that YOU CAN DO IT! 🙂
You see what is working for you and you trust yourself and your abilities!
By far, this book is on top of my list of the best books on procrastination.
What Really Helped Me In The Book…
What I liked the most and really helped me was to remind myself “why” I need to take that action.
Why are we doing what we’re doing?
There’s always a great reason why we’re doing what we’re doing and discovering “why” can help so much in stop procrastination!
Another strategy that Nadalie is sharing in her book and that I loved is: “Stop multitasking and do a single task all the time!
It worked great for me until today! 🙂 And it helped me to figure out how not to procrastinate anymore…
What Was Nadalie’s Why Back Then?
Nadalie shares:
“When we procrastinate, it’s exhausting!
You’re in an emotional panic!
In a way, we get addicted to that panic.
We need to get things done, but I do think that for me, once I kicked the habit, I got addicted to getting things done early if not in time.
This feeling of “Yes, I did it!” I knew I could do better!
For example, if I could get an A on a paper I barely wrote, how much could I do if I put my time into it?
And that year when I shifted it, I got many A’s, and things really changed!
I had that work ethic, that discipline since then! It worked for me!”
Inspirational, right? 🙂
