This is one of the ideas that will help you out!
The cost of inaction explained!
What am I talking about with this cost of inaction?
No matter what you want in your life: A new job, better health, improving your relationships, we are sometimes afraid of taking action.
Or for example, going for a walk every day, eating healthier, going to the gym… I’m talking about that kind of action.
Why is that? Because we are afraid of feeling negative emotions!
If you try to get healthier, for example, you’re afraid that you might feel dread before going for a walk or to the gym.
Or maybe, you’re afraid of feeling withdrawn if you choose to eat a salad instead of a hamburger…?
As you can see, there is a cost of taking one of these actions, the negative emotion.
The thing is, there is a cost to inaction too!
Not doing anything about it = costing you something!
We think that if we don’t take any action, nothing will change and it’s okay that things will stay like that!
But actually, we need to keep in mind that there is a cost to inaction.
If you decide not to quit your job, not to take small actions to feel healthier, the inaction you’re “taking” is actually costing you.
About the example of the job, when you don’t quit this job or look for another one, it’s costing you this other maybe amazing opportunity (a new and different maybe more fulfilling job!).
It’s about what you are not getting/creating when you don’t take action towards what you really want.
What is costing you the most?
It comes down to the idea that I love sharing, no matter what you want to do, ask yourself:
What is costing me the most?
For example, not taking action toward feeling healthier may cost you to stay where you are.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with where you are right now!
But maybe you want to be healthier, to be stronger, to feel better when you run for the bus?
Then, it’s maybe costing you more to stay where you are, not taking any action toward being healthier than actually taking an action.
It always comes down to: What is costing you the most?
To take action or to maybe stay in inaction?
Sometimes, it’s better for you not to take action!
For example, if right now you’re focusing on something in particular in your life, it’s maybe better to take action to be healthier in a few months.
But always keep in mind: What is costing you the most in the end?
Knowing the cost of inaction = building your self-confidence!
To build your confidence, it’s quite useful to feel like you have control over your life.
Sometimes, we find ourselves reacting to life and feeling like we have no control and that we are the victim of some circumstances!
It can be true, but it’s important to keep in mind that we can have an influence on the way we look at those circumstances.
And then, we can decide if we want to change our lives and take action or stay in inaction.
When you are aware of what you’re choosing and you love your reasons for doing so, you will build your confidence.
Think about something that you really want in life.
And then, consider where you’re standing.
Is it worth it for you to take action? Or to stay in inaction?
You’ll then feel more in control and have your own back, no matter what decision you’re making!
To sum up!
As you can see, no matter if you decide to take action or to stay in inaction, it will cost you something.
So, what is costing you the most?
No matter what you want to change in your life or what you’re trying to get and to feel, there is a cost for taking the next action or for not taking any action.
Sometimes, the choice is obvious! 🙂
But most of the time we aren’t even conscious of the consequences of taking or not taking action.
Think about it and decide for yourself! By doing this, you’ll build your confidence, I’m 100% convinced of that! 🙂
