Time is passing and if you’re anything like my clients or myself, you’re going to have more fears coming up…
Let me show you what to do when this is happening!!
Fear is an emotion!
The very first thing to do is to remember that fear is an emotion.
And remember that any emotion that you may feel is coming from a thought that you are thinking and that you believe is true.
So, first thing first, remind yourself that nothing has gone wrong!
You’re a perfectly perfect human being having a human brain and you’re having 60’000 thoughts per day!
Also, don’t forget that our brain is wired to keep us alive and safe.
So, thinking thoughts that create the emotion of fear is totally normal considering that your brain is just doing its thing… Braining! 🙂
What fears?
My life coaching clients and I share the fears of:
- Time passing and not having enough of it!
- Seeing the people we love getting old and dying…
- Considering that we will indeed die and how it will be…
- Marrying the “right” person, having the “right” job…
Afraid of living our best life, the life that really makes us happy…!
3 Steps to deal with our fears!
And here we go with the practical advice/strategies!
1. Welcome the fear with open arms!
I know that you might think that it’s counterproductive but let me tell you more about this!
Do you remember the last emotion you truly felt?
When I’m saying “truly felt”, I talk about the fact that you took the time to get out of your head and into your body and to really feel that emotion.
So, for the fear, really, next time that you can say “Yes, I’m feeling this fear!”, question yourself:
- Where is this vibration in my body?
- What color is it?
- What shape?
- Is it moving? Fast or slow?
- How can I describe it even more and befriend it?
Welcome the emotion and just know that the worst that can happen is an emotion!
I notice also with my life coaching clients that sometimes, we are afraid of feeling an emotion because we are afraid of not being able to “get out” of it!
But resisting it isn’t working either so… Let’s just welcome it, breathe into it and see how this may bring you a different experience! 🙂
2. What’s the thought behind it?
After welcoming the emotion, really take the time now to be curious and compassionate and to ask yourself:
What am I thinking that makes me feel afraid or fear?
Take your time to find it.
At first, it can be quite overwhelming considering all of what we might be thinking in our head!!
So, be gentle at first! 🙂
And just 1 thought, only one! 🙂
It could be for example:
- I’m not sure we’ll stay together…
- I hope nobody gets sick…
- I hope she will be healthy…
Also, you might have questions popping up!
Simply, turn them into a thought such as “Should I change career?” by “I’m not sure I should change or not a career.”
It’s easier to take power over it instead of it having power of you!
3. Let go of that thought and remind yourself that it’s your brain braining 🙂
My favorite step!
Now that you have the thought creating fear such as (I heard this one recently a few times!): “This life goes by too fast.”
Pay attention to it, and repeat it a few times to see the effect it has on you (probably creating fear, feeling anxious, stressed?) and simply create a distance with that thought.
Remind yourself that it’s not because you think it that it’s true!
It goes with the idea of “do not believe everything you think!”.
And… You actually don’t have to push that thought away.
Simply let it go by reminding yourself that your brain is trying to protect you, he thinks that thinking this will be necessary and might prevent you from being eaten by a lion…
Remember that nothing has gone wrong with you, you’re totally normal with a normal brain!
Look at this thought as a cloud in the sky… By paying attention to it and to the way you’re feeling, it will pass.
