I loooove the question “if you had a magic wand, what would you use it for?”
Because it reveals what that person wants in their life if they could just get it!
But there is a step in the middle that is missing, it’s the piece that I call “accepting where you are right now”.
Let’s dig a bit into this so you can use it in your life too!!
What do you want, actually?
Actually, I think that there are 2 kinds of people.
The first group is living their life from a place of “rinse and repeat”.
They live every day like they lived the day before and they are okay with it, they maybe even like it!
And there’s nothing wrong with it! It’s just great to see what group we’re in and to CHOOSE to be in that group (or to CHOOSE the other group if we decide to!).
They like their good life and keep on living it day after day.
They keep on thinking the same thoughts that bring them the same results every single day.
Again, nothing wrong with living like this!
Let’s look at the other group.
The other group of people wants to live not a good life but a GREAT life.
So, they want something more!
It can be another job, a new passion/hobby, another lifestyle…
As you can see, it’s really not about one group being better than another one! It’s really more about first of all seeing what group we are a part of.
The river of misery!
The moment that we are conscious that we want something more out of our life and that we actually don’t want to live every day the same, we are part of group number 2.
What is happening is that we start being more conscious that we want to lose weight, we want to start a business, or simply try a new hobby, discover a spiritual practice, etc. whatever comes to your mind when you answer the question: “What would you do with a magic wand?”
So, we see ourselves where we are right now (again, absolutely nothing wrong with where we are right now!) and we start by picturing ourselves where we’re going to be once we get there!
And most of the time, we are in all-or-nothing thinking so it’s kind of between the weight we currently are and the weight we want to be at (for the example the weight).
The problem here is that the gap is HUGE between where we are right now and where we want to go!!
I like how at the Life Coach School, they call this “the river of misery”.
Because you’re trying to get there, to try that new hobby, to look for another job and you’re really behind that 2 “yous” and it is soooo uncomfortable!
And this is what we are already missing here: You know you want to live a GREAT life and not just a GOOD life which is already GOLD!
Awareness is sooo important and if you’re listening to this and it resonates because you know or you just discover that indeed, you DO want something more for your life and for yourself, you’re already halfway there! 🙂
Picture your future self…
For sure this is one of the best tools I’m using when I’m coaching my clients.
I truly believe that our best inspiration ever is our future self.
It’s that person we think we’re going to be once we get that thing, we get that job, that husband, we get to that weight number!
This person is our best inspiration for today and I’m asking her for guidance and advice every single day.
So, take the time to first think about what it is that you want and you can definitely just want more time for yourself or start something like tennis or playing the guitar!
It doesn’t have to involve ending poverty (yet! You could!) even if that would be awesome I have to say…
Just something that would make you think that your life is GREAT and not only good (which again, no problem with having a good life!!).
So… How is this future self different from your present self?
What is she thinking?
What is she feeling on a daily basis?
What is she DOING? How is she behaving?
What is she believing actually? About herself? The world?
Between the 2 of you!
When we’re talking about her in my coaching sessions, our future self, we can see that there is this gap between the one we are now and the one we will be once we get there.
And it could be hard to really imagine being here! If this is how you feel, it makes perfect sense!!
Now, I want to offer you to look at where you are now not as a past version of yourself, the one that you maybe don’t want to be anymore (because you want to be that future self now with her accomplishment, her new tennis racquet or her new guitar!) but as an intermediate self.
And to consider all the way since you already started.
This is why I am SO HAPPY when my coaching clients find me and tell me that “they’ve tried everything!”, they don’t know what to do anymore!
I absolutely LOVE it because it means that they already tried so much, they are so ready for that next step and I believe so much in the power of coaching (because the difference between my old self and my present self is coaching itself! Because I got coached so much to get where I am today and… I never arrived when you think about it! But this is for another episode!).
So, if for example, you wish you would have a few kilos less, just think of all of that you tried until now, all the time spent thinking about it and wanting something different, you’re so much closer to where you want to be when you look at it this way right?
When you imagine a line and you read on the left “old me”, on the right “new me” and in the middle, there is the “right now me”.
Do you see how far you’ve come? Everything you tried, every time you thought about it? Every time you wished for something more, something else?
So, you’ve come a long way!! And as I always say, it’s all a matter of perspective!
We can always choose how we want to look at things.
You’ve maybe been beating yourself up about your past and saying for example “I should have been fitter, I should have lost this weight” or you can look at it and say “wow, I really tried! I really wanted it so bad! I’m amazing for knowing what I want!”
The beautiful alternative of accepting where you are!
And this is the piece that I want to offer you today: How would it feel to accept where you are right now?
No need to absolutely BE that future self now, to think like her and to believe that you got there, you accomplished what you wanted, you play the guitar or tennis, you changed job, life is GREAT, life is AWESOME!
But what if you would look at all you’ve been through, all that you’ve tried, and all that you’ve hoped for from a place of ACCEPTANCE?
And here, I’m offering you just like I’m offering my coaching clients some thoughts to try on just like you would try clothes on in a shop and see for yourself if you feel more acceptance…
- I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
- It was all always part of the process.
- I really tried and did my best.
- My future doesn’t have to be like my past.
- I can get whatever I want for myself or for my life.
- What I want isn’t going to make me feel more worthy. I am worthy right here right now.
- I am my present self.
- Nothing is wrong with my present self.
- My future self isn’t better than my present self or my past self. We are all amazing.
It’s going with the idea that I heard on a podcast one day:
Some people want to go from thinking “I hate my body” to thinking “I absolutely LOVE my body!” and what if the middle, the acceptance part would be “I have a body”.
What if there’s no all or nothing thinking and that there is a middle that is more aligned to acceptance than to something we don’t believe yet?!

To sum up!
So, as you can see, the very first step today is to ask yourself what you would want to use a magic wand for.
And I hope that you will use it for something you actually have control over!
If you ask for things that are out of your control, it can sound pretty challenging (and even if this happens, talk to me! You’re not the first one and I’m going to help you! I’m used to helping beautiful people changing what they want to something that they have control over!!).
So, when you want something but you see your future self for something that is too “far-fetched”, or impossible to believe now, try the “accepting” technique.
What if there would be this line with on the left your past self, in the middle your present self, and on the right, your future self?
What if where you are right now is perfectly fine and is totally part of the process?
Can you accept where you are right now? And knowing that it doesn’t mean anything about where you want to be, to go, to become? 🙂
If you don’t, more reasons to talk to me! 🙂
