Things tend to really suck sometimes, right?!
But… What is really your attitude at the moment?
Let’s have a look at it and let me show you why it’s important!!
Things suck!
I remember recording a 2 part episode on the topic “What to do when something sucks!” and it was about looking at what you are thinking and considering also that “This sucks” is a thought that you’re choosing to think (even if it doesn’t look like this!).
And I love showing my clients the impact that what you are choosing to think has on your life.
Because ask yourself: How are you feeling when you think “this sucks”?
It’s definitely not a fact!
Don’t beat yourself up if you find yourself thinking that something sucks, but just keep in mind that it’s a thought that you’re choosing to think (among many other thoughts you could think!!).
So, here I just want to tell you that it’s completely okay that you think that something sucks.
It’s part of our human brain that let me remind you, is looking for danger every single day!
That’s why 80% of the thoughts your brain is coming up with will be negative…! Crazy right? 80%!!
Think of something that sucks for you…
Now, take a minute to think about something that currently sucks for you.
Maybe something work-related? Or something in your relationships? Or something that you keep on telling yourself such as “I should do more sport, I should eat healthier…”? (Just sharing that examples because that’s what I hear my clients say!).
You’re not alone!
Keep that situation in your mind and let’s dive right in.
What’s your attitude towards it?
I like to point out the difference with my clients between what are the facts and what are the STORIES we tell ourselves about that facts.
So, take that example back of something that sucks for you and really ask yourself here: What is the story you’re telling yourself about it?
And the most important here: What is your attitude about it?!
I think that to have a small pity party for ourselves is totally fine for let’s say, 15 minutes!
Random number but I think that it’s way enough!
During those 15 minutes, when you realize, when you think that something sucks, you can use these 15 minutes to complain, to be annoyed, and to really say out loud how much this situation is annoying to you.
Then and this is the most important part of the episode of today: Acknowledge how you are feeling and how much it’s sucking for you and THEN, move on, pay attention to the attitude you want to have at that moment.
How do you want to show up in that situation that is sucking?
And be honest with yourself: How is your attitude, how are you looking at that situation?
What do you want to be thinking?
For example, if you think that “you should eat healthier”.
What is your attitude towards it? Do you add another layer of beating yourself up and feeling bad about the fact that it “sucks” in your eyes or are you doing something about it?
And the very first thing in my opinion is to be compassionate and curious about why you think that this sucks.
You can tell yourself: “I wonder why I think that. I understand that I think that this situation sucks and I want to eat healthier.”
And then ask yourself: “What is my attitude towards this and what do I want my attitude to be?”
“What do I want to think about this situation that I think “sucks”?”
I just like to remind myself that I’m choosing to look at this situation this way, it gives all of the power back into my hand, into the interpretation that I have and not to that event, to that thing that “sucks”.

Sometimes, things are happening in our lives and it’s just easy to blame those things for making us feel this way!
But actually, it’s never the thing that makes us feel a certain way but our thoughts about that thing!!
It’s never what somebody is telling you that sucks but what you thought of it!
This is why sometimes, you don’t care about that person saying something to you and something you do because it’s not about what they said but about what you made it mean, what you thought about it.
When you really pay attention to your attitude when things are happening in your life, you feel more in control.
And as I always say, when we feel more in control, we feel more confident.
So, this is always a great boost for your confidence!
To sum up!
So, pay attention to the way you think about what is “sucking” in your life.
And take the time to question your attitude.
Do not beat yourself up, really, look at it from a place of compassion and curiosity!
You’re just a human being with a human brain that is trying to keep you safe! So, he will look for the negative everywhere he can!
