As humans, we are social beings who try to live up to societal expectations. However, when we put other’s opinions first and seek external validation we lead unhappy lives.
The internet and social media have exacerbated the situation where from an early age we all want to show off and live fake lives. Many teens now grow up dreaming of becoming the next Kardashians, Instagram models, or reality TV superstars.
While there’s nothing wrong with having such ambitions, it becomes problematic when we lead lives which are unaligned to our true nature.
Set self-improvement goals that align with your true self. Strive to be your true self and cultivate traits that are in line with your true character. Believe that people will love your authenticity and value your real character.
4. Learn a New Language
Have you ever wanted to explore other cultures and learn a new language? Studies show that learning a new language can improve your brainpower and boost memory retention. Your circadian rhythm holds the key to your overall health. Many people still hold the false belief that sleeping fewer hours brings success. If you’re sleeping irregular hours for only short periods per day you’re stressing your body and mind. Make the decision to start sleeping 6 to 8 hours per day. A regular circadian rhythm will benefit your mind, heart, and weight.
6. Develop Healthy Eating Habits
It may sound cliché, but you really are what you eat. Make it your personal goal to eat a balanced diet. A great diet rule is to try for 45 percent carbs, 35 percent good fats, and 30 percent protein. Load up on vegetables and avoid artificial foods. Real foods are rich in fiber and antioxidants.
To keep yourself in check, keep a food journal and set healthy diet limits. Pace your meals so you never eat too much in one sitting or allow yourself to get too hungry.
7. Develop a Growth Mindset
Depending on your attitude, when things don’t go your way you can either see that as a failure or as a learning opportunity. Having a growth mindset means you find the positive even in negative situations. The Japanese have used a growth mindset (known as Kaizen philosophy) for ages. Are you living paycheck to paycheck because of overwhelming debt? Whether it’s credit card debt, student loans, or other non-mortgage debt, living in debt can suck the life out of you.
Getting out of debt is the best way to take control of your life and chart your future. If you’re in debt, living debt-free should be your primary financial goal.
Start making higher payments to offset your debt faster. Pick up a side hustle. Create a minimalist budget and stick to it. Sell off your stuff if you have to. Just get rid of that debt.
10. Watch Your Expenses
Most people think the way to financial riches is by earning more money. I believe your best bet at financial stability is by capping your expenditure.
And it’s not just the big things. Start by looking at all the little daily and weekly expenditures. Do you need a daily latte? Do you need the 3 bottles of wine every Friday? Do you need restaurant lunches? Limit yourself to just a few luxuries, especially those that are necessary for strategic networking with the right people.
11. Be Strict With Your Budget
Making budgets can be fun, it’s the follow-up that gets crazy. And that’s the difference between financial success and failure. Sticking to your budget is the best way to cut expenses, clear debt, and grow your savings.
Make a plan to live on as little as possible. In the beginning, you can cut off all luxuries. Once you’ve reached certain goals like clearing debt, you can add some discretionary spending for things that bring you joy.
12. Save and Invest Smarter
Are you worried about how you will survive if you lost your job today? What if you had an expensive medical bill not covered by your insurance provider?
One of my favorite books, “The Richest Man in Babylon” shares a safe way to save money and invest wisely. In the book, the author advocates for saving a tenth of your earnings. Once your savings reach a certain limit, invest it to take advantage of compound interest. Be careful with your investments lest you lose all your savings with one poor decision.
13. Unlock an Abundance Mindset
Quite often, our financial and life problems are brought on by our limiting belief systems. Limitations begin when you start thinking that you’re not financially secure because you’re not educated enough, not attractive enough, or not part of a rich family. Our minds come up with silly excuses for why we are not what we would like to be.
Start and thinking and behaving in ways that create the belief that you’re worth all the good things life has to offer. Believe in yourself and your abilities. Take advantage of opportunities even when there’s a little voice telling you that the opportunity is for other people. Better people.
Start thinking abundantly about money and unlock your abundance mindset. Look at what you’ve already earned in the past and know that you can create just as much and even more. Learn how to maximize the time you have. You can use your free time to start a side hustle or learn an extra skill.

Your abundance mindset will unlock creativity and a desire to be better. Improving your current skills will make you more productive and earn you more money. If your superiors take notice, they will be more receptive to giving you a raise, promotions, and bonuses. As a parent, you still get the final say depending on money raised, security issues, travel requirements, medical restrictions, and the range of activities so everyone has a wonderful time.
